Until only recently if you were to Google ‘Menopause’, then you’d be inclined to think that it only happens to white middle aged women as these were the only images you would find.  This is of course not true.

Menopause will happen to every person born as female at some point in their life.  It’s therefore important to remember that not all individuals who experience menopause will identify as a woman but may still have the appropriate biological make-up to experience menopause.

Our world is multicultural and non binary and so too is the workplace.  As more workplaces strive to improve diversity and inclusivity, there is no better time to create a menopause-friendly workspace

Natural Menopause marks the end of a ‘female’s’ reproductive phase.  The ovaries run out of eggs and periods stop.  This usually happens between the ages of 45 and 55 but can sometimes happen earlier naturally or as a result of surgery, illness or other reasons.  Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) affects at least 1% of women aged 12-40 and early menopause affects 10-15% before the age of 45

A Trans man will go through a surgical menopause if they have the womb or ovaries, or both removed.  If a Trans man does not have a hysterectomy or oophorectomy they will experience natural menopause once oestrogen and progesterone diminish.

Culturally menopause can often be a sensitive subject, one which is traditionally not spoken about even in the home. Some cultures will not allow women to talk about private matters in front of men so support at work should be provided in a way that is accessible for all employees to feel safe and supported.

I can help provide training and guidance for menopause support in the workplace in many ways.  Online webinars, management training , writing policies etc.
